Frequently Asked Questions

It says "Danganronpa" on the home page, but is this a killing game?

Yes, it's a Danganronpa group, but it's not a killing game group! This is an action/adventure RP group about freedom fighters against a common enemy that's destroying the world. It's based on the lore of the Danganronpa universe and following the story established from its prequel groups Hope's Road to Despair. If you're looking for some mutual killing, this isn't it.

How much activity is expected of me? Do I need a Discord account to join?

This group isn't as fast-paced as other Danganronpa groups, but we still want to keep the story moving. You'll be given a warning to correct your activity if you're unable to finish a mission or participate in an event every three months. While we understand real life comes first, we want an active community!

Yes, you're expected to either have a Discord account or be willing to make one. Most of the activity in the group will be in our group server!

Can my character be connected to another person's characters?

Yes, of course! As long as you both agreed on it beforehand, they can be old friends, family, anything you want! However, please keep in mind there's no guarantee we'll accept both of you during an opening.

What's the in-universe timeline?

The first Tragedy occurred now 33 years ago (DR1, DR2, DRAE, DR3). Future’s Road Academy began to take their first students 30 years ago. The Heralds’ Coming began a bit more than a year ago. There were 29 promotions of students in Future’s Road Academy, with only promotions 28 and 29 participating in the Eternal Killing Game.

If you want a more in-depth version of the timeline, you can check this document, which includes all major events from the Danganronpa canon and what happened during those 30 years after DR3. If you want more information about the Eternal Killing Game, we recommend you check the recaps in Hope's Road to Despair!

You don't have to know everything, of course, but we need your characters to be at least aware of the Tragedy of Hope's Peak, the opening of Future's Road Academy, and the Heralds' Coming. Basically what's explained in the introduction journal. Also, please, don't have your characters be connected in any way to canon Danganronpa characters.

How is the world like currently?

Although the Initiative has been doing its best, the world is still very messed up thanks to the Heralds. Here's a list of consequences of the Coming in general terms:

- The world leaders have either joined the Heralds of Despair, or have been killed.
- Some countries are in an anarchic state, while others are being ruled cruelly by Heralds.
- The big centers of population in their respective countries have been the most ravaged places. Most historical buildings have been destroyed, and even more innocents killed or taken by the Heralds.
- Influential figures have been forced into hiding, as the Heralds often hunt them for ideology reasons, or simply for sport. Many celebrities and Former Ultimates have been publicly killed or tortured.
- Some rebellious groups have appeared in a few countries, that might support the Initiative or not. Shelters have been established, helping each other to survive as well as the Initiative, although most of them rely on secrecy for now in order to not be discovered by the Heralds.
- Smaller populations have been able to stay relatively untouched so far and have become shelters.
- The internet as we know it and general telecommunications no longer work. Phones are useless unless they're hooked up to local networks someone may have made.

Keep in mind there's countries that have been liberated and are currently trying to establish order once more. If you wish to know which countries have been liberated so far, check the Status page.

What's the technology like?

Semi-futuristic. Holographic computers and hovering cars exist, and space colonies were starting to become viable before the world fell apart. Think of a near future setting similar to Overwatch.

How are agents scouted?

Normally, Selene either recruits the agent herself after they’ve performed an outstanding deed that makes them capable to go against the Heralds, or she’ll send other agents on her behalf. In short, they must have taken action against the Heralds by themselves or as a smaller group wherever they had been holding out until the time of their recruitment. They must show capabilities that make them fit for the division they'll be working in.

Can I lock or hide information about my character?

Yes! You may hide your character's biography completely or partially from the public eye if you want. You can also choose to lock away your character's real name, but they need to have a reason for that. Other information may be hidden, but it'll be a by-case basis and you should contact us for that. However, any hidden information must be handed over to the mods when you submit your character for an app check or for acceptance.

My character is a Former Ultimate. How was it like in Future's Road Academy?

The Academy was founded by Future Foundation, and its main task was to keep watch over Ultimates and teach them how to use their abilities wisely. Once an Ultimate is scouted, they got Future Foundation agents sent to their home and they were personally escorted to the Academy. There was no way to refuse!

Classes in the academy were the usual subjects for the most part, but with an emphasis on a class all students had to take about ethics, responsibility, human rights, and international laws. The students also had to take routine medical checkups, including a psychological one at the start of each year. The students with talent in a specific subject were exempt of this subject, but could get extra credit by preparing presentations for their classmates and tutoring them in the subject if they struggled.

How could my character become a Self-Proclaimed Ultimate?

It's up to you! But here's a few common ideas:

- Their talent became apparent when they were too old to be scouted into Future's Road Academy

- Someone else was better than them and they were scouted into Future's Road, but your character took the title anyway

- They hid their talent until the Coming, so they were never scouted. This is most common with illegal talents

If you come up with something else, you're welcome to use it! However, keep in mind they must have the skills and achievements to back up their claim to an Ultimate title.

Can my character bring pets to the ship? And weapons?

Neither, sorry! Weapons may be bought using group currency, and certain divisions have starting weapons. Regarding pets, an exception can be argued for if the pet is related to the character's Ultimate talent or it's a service animal. However, agents may be able to bring pets to the ship when they purchase a room for themselves and move out from the barracks.

Can my character be an infiltrate from the Heralds? Can they be a deserter?

We're too far in the story to have infiltrate characters introduced now, sorry! However, they can be deserters from the Heralds with no strings attached, but they must have clearly given up the organization.

How many characters can I have?

You'll start with one, but you may buy new slots in the shop. You may have three main agents in total, plus three secondary agents in the Support division. There's also the possibility to trade out a Support slot for a fourth main agent.

Could my character die?

When you enter the group, and after you enter any new agents, you'll be asked to fill a consent form of what we are allowed and are not allowed to do to your agent, which includes death. If you do not want them to die, we won't kill them if they mess up, but you may choose otherwise if you like the thrill. If your character dies, you’ll be awarded a new slot to replace your dead character free of charge. There's an item in the shop that can be redeemed in these cases so you'll be refunded most of the currency you spent on the fallen agent.

Can the agents bring visitors to the ship?

No! It’s a secret base! No visitors are allowed, although agents may take leaves to visit their family.
