It all began with the Tragedy in Hope’s Peak Academy… and it soon became The Biggest, Most Awful, Most Tragic Event in Human History. Thanks to Junko Enoshima, the Ultimate Despair, the world was plunged into chaos. This happened almost thirty-two years ago now. Junko Enoshima died after being defeated in her own game. Future Foundation rose and ended the madness left behind by her followers. The world calmed down, and those they called the Remnants of Despair were considered to have been eradicated.

A year after the Tragedy ended, Future’s Road Academy opened its doors in order to keep Ultimates in check, ran by Future Foundation.

The world healed slowly. There were many people who had lived through the horror and tried to have their children have a better life, but it seemed history was doomed to repeat itself.
 

Thirty years after the Tragedy, something happened. It was called the Heralds' Coming.
 

They rose from the shadows. They had just been biding their time. The Remnants of Despair who survived had slowly changed methods, names and made more people join their cause. During those thirty years, they waited and organized. They slowly made their way everywhere: governments, multinational companies, even Future Foundation itself. They waited for a chance. When they attacked, they planned to make it so quick nobody could stop them.
 

What they didn't expect was to be discovered before they were ready.

Zeno Selvaggio, a student in Future’s Road Academy, found them during his investigations of something completely unrelated. He sounded the alarm, but Future Foundation decided to be cautious. However, it was a matter of time before the Heralds discovered they had been compromised. 

They couldn’t keep waiting. It was time to act. 

Their first move was murdering Zeno. Future Foundation wrongly blamed the wrong student for it. Just as they expected. It kept them busy, and the Heralds rose.
 

In less than a day, Future Foundation had been destroyed and Future’s Road Academy was in flames. An ominous message was aired to the world from the remains of Future Foundation's HQ in which they announced their existence and warned of what would come next. The world followed soon after. After all, no amount of resistance could fight an enemy from the inside. Despair threatened to destroy the world once more.
 

They hadn't forgotten about Future's Road. In order to follow Junko's footsteps, the Heralds used the student wrongly convicted of murder to host a brand new killing game. They destroyed his will and made sure he'd follow their orders. A killing game that repeated again and again… the Eternal Killing Game.
 

Everything seemed lost, but some people don’t give up. Some people wanted to stand back up. Not with misguided hope, not with self-righteous ideas of justice. They just wanted to live in peace. In order to fight the Heralds of Despair and have another chance to live in peace, people fought back. The Anti-Herald Initiative was founded, led by a woman going by the name of Selene.
 

There’s a chance of freedom. 

You learned that too when you saw the end of the Eternal Killing game: the students cornered the Game Master, made him realize who had really killed Zeno... and he betrayed his captors although it could have implied his death. In the end, they prevailed, and the Initiative rescued the surviving students.

After fighting the Heralds by yourself, she’s approached you. She offered you to join her. Because the more determined people they have, the better chance they’ll have at ending the madness.
