When agents in the Anti-Herald Initiative are first recruited, they're assigned Rank E, but they may slowly climb up the ranks as they prove their abilities and build up successful missions against the Heralds of Despair. When an agent ranks up, they receive additional stat points to distribute, new ability slots, and can unlock the chance to purchase more advanced weapons to use. They will also unlock harder missions in which they may earn more Advantage Points against the Heralds and move the story forward.

In order to tank up, agents must complete a number of missions. Each rank requires its own amount, and the ranks of the missions themselves are also important:

• Rank D: Three (3) Rank E missions completed.

• Rank C: Four (4) Rank D missions completed. Rank E missions count as half a Rank D mission.

• Rank B: Four (4) Rank C missions completed. Rank D missions count as half a Rank C mission.

• Rank A: Three (3) Rank B missions completed. Rank C missions count as half a Rank B mission.

• Rank S: Unavailable.

Be careful, as agents may also rank down! If they repeatedly break rules, sabotage their missions, or are inactive without doing any missions in the span of three months, they will be warned by their Division's leader before they can potentially be ranked down, and, in the worst case, expelled from the Initiative.

When agents rank up, they gain slots for abilities to purchase in the shop. They may only purchase general abilities or the ones geared for their division. Here's a rundown of the ability slots available for each rank:

• Rank E: No slots

• Rank D: 1 slot

• Rank C: 2 slots

• Rank B: 4 slots

• Rank A: 6 slots

• Rank S: 8 slots

Another perk to ranking up is gaining extra stat points that you may distribute however you want on your agent:​

• Rank D: +4 points

• Rank C: +4 points
